"This is not the time for the Church to cower away in fear but to arise in humble boldness and demonstrate our confidence in the Lord. This is not a time to retreat but to advance!" declares Ps Benny Ho. Photo by Abigail Keenan on Unsplash.

Borders are shut. Countries are in crisis management mode.

But in these unprecedented circumstances, Ps Benny Ho recognises the gauntlet that has been thrown down in front of the Church, one which he calls a “defining moment of discipleship“.

“In a time of global crisis, the Church is driven to a place where we are helpless. We face an enemy that is invisible and silent,” wrote Ps Benny at the start of the coronavirus outbreak.

“And His deliverance, we will see! This is not a time to retreat but to advance!”

“Like Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20, we turn to God … We are driven to our knees. We come to a place where we can only stand and see the deliverance of our God!

“And His deliverance, we will see!”

With this confidence, the Church of Christ must “go in the opposite spirit” of the fear and uncertainty in the world, said Ps Benny. “This is not the time for the Church to cower away in fear but to arise in humble boldness and demonstrate our confidence in the Lord. This is not a time to retreat but to advance!”

Salt&Light gathered the prayers of church leaders for each day of this week, so that we can, in unity, pause and pray together to a God who hears and heals the land (2 Chronicles 7:14).

Day 6: We declare that You are sovereign

Almighty God and Heavenly Father, we declare that You are sovereign, and You reign supreme over all.

Your Name is above every other name and your power above all powers. Your ways are above our ways and your thoughts above our thoughts.

Your mercies are new every morning and your wisdom knows no end.

In the Mighty Name of Jesus, we take authority over the global pandemic that is happening here on earth! We speak your protection over the health workers and service providers who keep our city running.

We ask for Your healing to be upon those who are infected, and your protection over those who are not.

We ask for your comfort to be with those who have lost their loved ones to this disease. We ask for a quick discovery of the vaccine and a strong recovery of our economy.

We ask that many will come to know you as the One True and Living God through our Lord Jesus Christ. May this crisis cause many to see who Christ really is.

We ask all this for the Glory of your Kingdom!

In Jesus’ Name! Amen.
