A CHRISTIAN AND AN EDUCATOR – A PRACTITIONER’S PERSPECTIVE ON SERVING GOD AND NATION (SHAPING VALUES WITH PETER TAN)

C S Lewis said: “Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a more clever devil.”

Similarly, Aristotle said: “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.”

How can those in the Education Gate, therefore, impart biblical values to our younger generation and be “salt and light” to impact society for Kingdom purposes?

Come hear prominent veteran educator Peter Tan’s take on these issues.

Tan has been in the education service for 35 years. In his career, he was a teacher before being posted to the Ministry of Education (MOE) Headquarter for eight years where he was a Senior Curriculum Specialist at the Curriculum Planning Division. He was appointed Principal of Anglo-Chinese School (Junior) in 1999, then Principal at Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road), serving a total of 18 years at both schools. He is currently the Principal of Queensway Secondary School.

He started the Fathers’ Prayer Group when he was at ACS (Junior). The group expanded into other schools and became the seed for the Elijah7000 prayer movement. He has been involved in praying parent groups as well as prayer groups for Christians.

Tan worships at Barker Road Methodist Church  He is married to Stacey and they have two adult children who are married.
