HEART OF LEADERSHIP (ES101 APR 2023)

Good pastoral leadership begins with character formation and leadership of the self. Business is not just something we do but the work is a manifestation of who we are. As researcher Brene Brown puts it: “Who we are is how we lead.”

This spiritual formation module presents an experiential journey into the heart of leadership. It will not only introduce spiritual practices that will assure executives of God’s love for them, but also help them to grow in self-awareness in order to discern their particular calling. Disciplines in discerning God’s guidance in daily business decision-making will also be taught.

Course objectives

  • Leadership begins with character formation and self-leadership;
  • Become more self-aware of your emotions and the ideas that shape your leadership;
  • Understand the roles that prayer, vulnerability, and affections play in effective leadership;
  • Learn how to discern God’s guidance in your decision-making.

Instructor

Anthony Siow is a Spiritual Formation Mentor trained in the Ignatian tradition. He left behind a successful advertising career to follow God’s call to cast the net elsewhere. Making use of his skills and creativity in advertising, Anthony incorporates the arts and popular culture into his work as Spiritual and Retreat Director. Anthony conducts retreats regularly for BGST and serves as a Spiritual Mentor for the school. He also leads silent retreats to Thailand and Australia.
