RAISING FUTURE-READY KIDS: SUICIDE PREVENTION & MENTAL HEALTH

Do you know if your child has entertained thoughts of suicide?

As parents, we can be a safe space for our children to learn through mistakes and express their emotions when life gets overwhelming.

But what if they begin to withdraw and keep to themselves instead? What other tools do we have to restore the connection and ensure their wellbeing?

In the final instalment of the Raising Future-Ready Kids webinar for the year by Focus on the Family Singapore, parents will be equipped to be their children’s first line of defence in the area of suicide prevention and mental health.

Just like physical health, we all have mental health. Yet, as a society, we don’t talk about our children’s mental health enough.

The most recent national youth mental health study revealed that 1 in 3 youth in Singapore reported internalising mental health symptoms such as sadness, anxiety and loneliness. Those aged 14 to 16 had more serious symptoms.

This webinar will be led by family life trainers and parents of a teenager, Gary and Joanna Koh. The Kohs have had their share of personal encounters with suicide. Gary was the head of a school’s counselling department for students aged 13-18 and Joanna used to be a psychiatric case manager. They will share valuable professional and, more importantly, candid parenting lessons on early intervention strategies surrounding mental health and youth suicide.

Come and learn how to:

  • Recognise signs of anxiety, depression and mental health challenges
  • Know what to do in the event your child experiences a mental health crisis
  • Have critical conversations about life and death
