40D 2024 Day 16 (16x9 Fam devo)

Read

Bible reading for Day 16  | Deuteronomy 3:28

“But commission Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him, for he will lead this people across and will cause them to inherit the land that you will see.” (Deuteronomy 3:28)

“‘I have taken great pains to provide for the temple of the Lord a hundred thousand talents of gold, a million talents of silver, quantities of bronze and iron too great to be weighed, and wood and stone. And you may add to them. You have many workers: stonecutters, masons and carpenters, as well as those skilled in every kind of work  in gold and silver, bronze and iron—craftsmen beyond number. Now begin the work, and the Lord be with you.’

Then David ordered all the leaders of Israel to help his son Solomon.” (1 Chronicles 22:14-17)

Learn

Yesterday we learned that God is a God of generations. He gave Esther a Mordecai to help her.

In the same way, He gives you older people to guide you, and wants you to help someone younger than you.

How can you do this?

Firstly, you can encourage and strengthen this younger friend, just like God told Moses to do to Joshua in the book of Deuteronomy. After Moses, Joshua was the next leader of the Israelites. He learnt from Moses’ example how to be a good leader.

Secondly, you can prepare what your younger friend needs to do God’s work. In 1 Chronicles 22, God told King David he would not build the temple but his son would. Instead of getting upset, King David got busy preparing all the materials and workers for his son, Solomon. He told all his leaders to help Solomon build the temple of God.

No matter how young we are, God wants us to help someone younger succeed, so that God’s work can be finished.

Discuss

1. Who are the Joshuas or Solomons in your life? How can you pray for them?

2. Think of someone younger than you – in what way can you encourage, strengthen and help him or her to do well?

3. Why do you think God cares about people of all generations, young and old?

Pray

1. Pray that God will bring you an older person – your Moses – who will be an example for you to follow.

2. Ask God to open your eyes to see all the younger people in your life – your little brother or sister or neighbour or friend. Pray that God will give you a heart to want to help them be successful.

3. Pray for people your age. Pray that God will make your generation strong and faithful to build the Kingdom of God in Singapore and the world.
