DAY 34 - KIDS DEVO (ARTICLE)

Read

Bible reading for Day 34 | Joshua 20:1-4

1 Then the Lord said to Joshua: 2 “Tell the Israelites to designate the cities of refuge, as I instructed you through Moses, 3 so that anyone who kills a person accidentally and unintentionally may flee there and find protection from the avenger of blood. 4 When they flee to one of these cities, they are to stand in the entrance of the city gate and state their case before the elders of that city. Then the elders are to admit the fugitive into their city and provide a place to live among them.

In Singapore, there are many foreigners who come from various countries. Many of them migrate to Singapore while others come here to work or study. It is common to see migrant workers around our neighbourhood. They have become part of this city and community. As people of God, we are called to reach out to the foreigners in our midst.

As a Church, we can be a place where they are comfortable, safe and welcome. We can be a blessing to them through our:

Protection

We can help to see that they are treated fairly. The Church can be a safe place where they are accepted.

Presence

We can welcome them into our neighbourhoods and community. Sometimes, spending time with them can be a great comfort to them, especially for those who miss home.

Providence

We can provide what they need, like food, clothes, sports facilities and medical care. We can pray for their health, their families, their jobs.

We don’t have to travel to other countries to share the Gospel. Now they are at our doorstep. Let us, the Church, be the City of Refuge for those who are lonely, helpless and who are away from their homes.

Discuss

1. Do you know of anyone who has come to Singapore to work or study? Which countries do they come from? Share what you know about them.

2. In what ways can we extend hospitality or help to the foreigners in our community? What practical ways can you think of?

Pray

1. Pray for the foreigners that you know or come across in your community. Pray for opportunities to bless them.

2. Pray for the opportunity and courage to share the Gospel with them.
