Bible reading for Day 36 |Leviticus 19:33-34
33 “‘When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them.
34 The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.
Today, we don’t need to travel a long way to do missions. God has presented Singapore with a great chance to do missions right in our country and even our neighbourhood. About 30% of the workers in Singapore are foreigners. Many of them do jobs that are dirty, dangerous and difficult to keep Singapore going.
What does God say in the Bible about how we should treat the foreigners in our land? We, the Church, are to love them and care for them. Let’s B.L.E.S.S. our guest brothers and sisters in our midst with the greatest gift – that of Christ’s salvation!
- Begin by praying for them. Pray for their well-being, safety, health and families.
- Listen to them. Hear their life stories, worries and joys.
- Eat with them. Have a meal with them; it is a personal experience.
- Serve them. Meeting their needs opens doors to friendships.
- Share your testimony. Share what Jesus has done in your life.
Discuss
1. Think about where you might meet a foreign worker this week, such as your HDB cleaner, gardener, domestic helper or construction worker. Practise a simple greeting or word of appreciation you can share with them to help them feel welcomed and valued.
2. Discuss with your mum or dad what you could do to bless guest workers and to show them that God cares for them.
Pray
1. Give thanks to God for the guest workers in our midst, for bringing them to Singapore and for giving us this chance to care for them.
2. Ask God for grace and help to care for them as our brothers- and sisters-in-Christ and, above all, to show them Jesus through our life.
