Day 10: The incredible love and power of God

DAY 10 - FBYT (ENG)(2mb)

Bible reading for 40.DAY 2023 | Genesis 18

Once I was praying with a few brothers. One of them was filled with the Holy Spirit, humbly asking God: “Lord, is there any limit to Your power?”

My spirit was blown away by his sincere question. After so many years, I still remember this incident clearly.

Man has so many technologically-advanced measuring instruments, yet none can measure the power of God. He has:

1.  Incredible power

“Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.” (Genesis 18:14)

God’s power is great and unthinkable. God can make the blind see, the dead come to life and the barren fruitful. God can heal those who are sick, and save those who have sinned, causing them to turn back to Him.

God can bring revival to Singapore and cause our entire nation to turn towards Him.

2 Peter 3:9 says the Lord does not want anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Though this might sound naïve, I believe that there is nothing too difficult for God to accomplish.

2.  Incredible faith

Because Abraham believed that God was powerful, he had incredible faith.

“Then God said, ‘Take your son, your only son, whom you love – Isaac – and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.’” (Genesis 22:2)

Because Abraham believed that God was powerful, he had incredible faith.

This was mission impossible. Nothing was more absurd than this.

God gave Abraham an unthinkable task to do. Even then, Abraham did not hesitate. He got up early the next morning, loaded his donkey and took his beloved son, Isaac, with him and went.

Was Abraham mad?

Not at all.  Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead. (Hebrews 11:19)

“The angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time and said, ‘I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.’” (Genesis 22:15-17)

3.  Incredible love

In the Garden of Eden, an animal was slain to provide garments of skin because of the sin of one man. At Passover, a lamb had to be slaughtered for each family. When Israel was in the wilderness, under Moses’ leadership, a lamb was slain for an entire country. At the Cross, the Son of God was sacrificed for the sins of the entire world.

God loves us. God loves Singapore.

Our Heavenly Father is lovingly bringing each and every one of His children Home.

The whole Bible talks about returning Home. How Man fell, sinned and left the Garden of Eden, and how our Heavenly Father is lovingly bringing each and every one of His children Home.

Let us pray and share the Gospel so that Singapore comes Home.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for loving Singapore. We are grateful that You carry Singapore in Your heart.

Lord, we pray and ask that You revive our churches. Help us to know of Your infinite power and love, that we may do incredible deeds and have incredible faith.

Lord, today we pray that Singapore will be revived so that more souls would be saved, more people would acknowledge Jesus Christ as their Saviour. Lord, help us to find joy in You. Help us to turn from our ways and follow You.

In Jesus’ name Your children pray, Amen.

Reflect

1. Can you recount an incident in your life when God showed His incredible power? How did that change how you live?

2. Which area of your life tests your faith? Reflect on Genesis 22:15-17. What do you learn about God that you can dwell on the next time your faith is tested?

3. Singapore is our earthly home, but God is our heavenly Home. Why do you think God placed you in Singapore, and how can you, as an individual, turn Singapore Godward starting from today?

Pray

1. Pray that, in your leadership in ministry, work and family, you draw your strength and endurance from God’s glorious power (Colossians 1:11; Ephesians 3:20-21). Our prayer has power only because we have a powerful God; His power determines our potential.

2. Pray for unshakable trust in the Lord and belief in His infinite love of the kind that Abraham possessed. Remember all the instances of God’s love and provision in your life and give thanks and praise for a God who remembers us in every circumstance.

3. Pray for more souls in Singapore to turn Godward, and ask for Him to show you how you can partner Him in His salvation plan.
