The second National Christian Educators Conference happens December 23 this year.
Launched last December, the first NCEC, organised by Salt&Light, drew more than 500 attendees from the Education sector.
Education is significant for its impact on the young. School is where lessons, values and perspectives are taught and caught, creating a foundation in a child’s life.
School is also where our young gain social skills and make sense of the world through interacting with peers and teachers. It is where they are exposed not only to facts but also stretch their imaginations and form their worldview.
Our children spend more time in school with teachers and friends than they do talking to siblings and parents at home. School is where they discover their strengths and weaknesses, and begin to develop a sense of self.
Education plays a critical role in every child’s life, impacting the next generation in a powerful way.
NCEC 2023 served as a platform to bring together Christians in the arena of education, to strengthen them in their calling and to sharpen them for their vocation.
It drew much positive response from attendees, many of whom felt that gaining a Kingdom perspective of what they do in their role as educators helped them tremendously and renewed their passion for their work.
Ms E Lim, a secondary school teacher who attended NCEC in 2023 told Salt&Light: “NCEC was a great time of refreshing and reminding me of our purpose as educators, to bring Christ’s hope into our schools – not just to our students, but our colleagues and parents too!”
She added: “It was a timely reminder before the year started that we are never alone in this journey in education. And as colleagues, parents, school KPs (key appointment personnel) and leaders in different areas of education, we all prayed together.”
What to expect at NCEC 2024
This year, NCEC will be a full-day conference from 10am to 6pm, offering greater room for attendees to connect with other like-minded educators, and receive encouragement as educators pursue the calling of God.
Attendees will hear God’s heart for the nation, the educator sector, the children and also themselves as educators. Senior Educator Mrs Chua-Lim Yen Ching will deliver the keynote address.
There will be time for mentoring, connecting and praying together – a powerful way to prepare for the academic year ahead in 2025.
“The launching of NCEC last year helped in galvanising fellow Christian Educators to come together and realise they are not alone,” said Pastor Amos Pang, a member of the organising committee of NCEC. Ps Amos was an educator before becoming a pastor.
“Last year’s conference revealed that there are Christian Educators everywhere who are hungry to make a difference in the lives of students, as well as praying parents, students, and fellow teachers who are praying together for our schools here in Singapore,” he added.
“This year, we hope to be more intentional in creating spaces for connections between Christian Educators, and see what the Lord births through these connections,” he told Salt&Light.
Registration for NCEC 2024 is open. Ps Amos urged: “Come and be reminded once again that you are never alone on this journey as an educator in Singapore. Come and be ministered to before we step into the new year!”
