CLASSICAL PIANO TO CONTEMPORARY KEYBOARD

Struggling to transition from classical playing to contemporary worship? How does a classically-trained pianist adapt their playing style to fit a contemporary context (with or without a band playing along)?

What the course is about

This course will show how classical knowledge, training and technique can help in contemporary playing, and equip classically-trained pianists with the skills needed to serve in contemporary worship services. Learn how to use your classical foundation to play effectively, whether solo or with a band.

Who can attend

Participants should have classical piano training, a basic understanding of chords and at least six months of experience playing contemporary Christian music.

About the instructor

Joyce Poh holds a Master of Music from the University of Sheffield and has been serving in the music ministry for almost 40 years. She has been involved in contemporary worship for over 30 years in various capacities (pianist, worship band music director) and is a member of Pentecost Methodist Church.
