LoveSingapore has called the Church in Singapore to unite and pray for Mr Lawrence Wong, who will be sworn in as Singapore’s new Prime Minister today (May 15). Here is its message.

Today, a new Prime Minister will be sworn in to Singapore, an occasion as rare as it gets in Singapore, with only three previous PMs in our history since Independence. The gravity of the moment demands our full attention.

As we stand at the threshold of this new season, we call on all churches to join us in honouring and praying for the new Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and his government (1 Timothy 2:1-2, Romans 13:1-7).

We are grateful for the leaders that have gone before, and the peace, prosperity and progress they have overseen.

Not just the three previous Prime Ministers – Mr Lee Kuan Yew, Mr Goh Chok Tong and Mr Lee Hsien Loong – but the government, Cabinet and civil service they have built and led for decades.

We acknowledge that the fruit of all the hard work has only come with the blessing of God. He alone grants peace in the land (Leviticus 26:6). The Lord alone brings prosperity (Isaiah 45:7). We thank God for the generations of leaders He has brought forth to help Singapore blossom!

We are grateful that Mr Lawrence Wong is ready to step up.

Scripture reminds us that the success of a leader’s reign comes down to his heart. Church, keep Mr Wong in prayer as he steps into this new office, that God will continue to work within him:
• A heart of integrity (1 Kings 9:4)
• A heart of discernment (1 Kings 3:9)
• A heart for justice (1 Peter 2:14)

“With a man of understanding and knowledge, the stability of a land will long continue.” (Proverbs 28:2)

We are hopeful that the new PM will be guided by compassion, justice and righteousness.

We are all aware of the struggles on the ground and even in the cracks. We are reminded by the words of Daniel to King Nebuchadnezzar: “Renounce your sins by doing what is right, and your wickedness by being kind to the oppressed. It may be that then your prosperity will continue.” (Daniel 4:27)

As we seek stability and prosperity, we acknowledge that these only continue if we heed God’s call to be kind and compassionate to the last, least and lost among us.

Finally, we are reminded of 2 Chronicles 7:14-15.

This passage has guided LoveSingapore since inception. “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.

A new PM for a new era. A renewed reminder to humble ourselves, pray, and seek His face. God’s eyes and ears are attentive to our supplication.

Will you cover our new PM, the Government, and the nation in prayer?

Shalom, Singapore!
