Dear Pastors and Church Leaders,
The recent spread of the Wuhan Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in China and many other countries presents a significant threat to the well-being of people throughout the world. The National Council of Churches of Singapore (NCCS) urges all churches and Christian organisations to adhere strictly to the advisories and guidelines issued by the Singapore government and the heads of your particular denominations, so as to minimise the risk that this disease might be transmitted as a result of our gatherings and activities.
Let us also continue to pray that the spread of this coronavirus will be curbed. In particular, let us pray
- that God will bless the efforts of the researchers seeking to discover diagnostic tools, vaccines and treatments
- that God will grant wisdom and insight to governments and organisations managing the current outbreak
- that God will pour his healing grace upon all who have been taken ill
- that God will comfort the relatives and friends of those who have died, and
- that God will grant us the physical, mental and emotional strength to cope with the challenges posed by this disease.
As Christians, let us also reflect on what God might be speaking to us through this crisis. It is also important that we guide our members not to unduly discriminate or cast aspersions on any racial or national groups as a result of what has happened. May our trust in God and our witness to His love stand firm and shine forth in this challenging moment.
Sincerely in Christ,
Bishop Terry Kee, President, NCCS
Rev Dr Ngoei Foong Nghian, General Secretary, NCCS
